Frequently Asked Questions
Q: How much do your cakes cost?
A: The cost of our cakes are linked directly to the size of the cake, the amount of work involved and many other factors. Please visit our Pricing Page for more information.
Q: How do we order a cake?
A: For Wedding Cakes, it is best for us to meet in person. We need to get to know you and your wedding plans so that we can make the most suitable cake to reflect your style and tastes.
Celebration cakes can be ordered by filling out the cake order form here and discuss details over the phone.
Please note that a cake is not considered ordered until we receive the deposit.
Q: Do you deliver? How about shipping?
A: Wedding cakes can be very heavy and the decorations delicate. Elaborate cakes must be delivered in parts and assembled on-site. We factor in the price of delivery into the wedding cake so that you can concentrate on your special day without worrying about the cake.
Celebration cakes can be delivered for a fee based on the destination, date and time.
Based in Mississauga, we can deliver throughout the Niagara Peninsula, Brantford, Kitchener-Waterloo, the Greater Toronto Area and everywhere in between. If you’re not sure, just ask us.
We do not ship our cakes as we cannot guarantee in what shape that you will receive them. We either deliver them to the location of your event or you pick it up personally (or a trusted friend/family member.)
Q: Do you bake from scratch, or use boxed cake mixes?
A: We started out using boxed cake mix, thinking that a beautiful cake was good enough. When I tried baking my first cake with fresh eggs, milk, flour, butter, and so forth, I discovered that I could make cakes whose flavour are an order of magnitude better without the unpronounceable chemical compounds that make boxed cakes so fool proof. If you really, really, really want a box-mix cake… well… ummm… no, sorry, I just can’t do it.
Q: What about icings and fillings; are they off the supermarket shelf?
A: The only ingredient that we use “off the shelf” is Rolled Fondant and Gum Paste. We found that the fondant we buy has excellent flavour and can be rolled much thinner than what we can make here, so there is much less to chew through on the cake, and what amount is used tastes great. Our hand made sugar flowers are made from gum paste, and although they are edible, if handled and stored with care, they will keep for years.
Q: How many servings will we need for our celebration?
A: We recommend that you count on at least 10-15% more servings that you expect guests at your event. Each tier has a recommended cutting pattern, but variations in cutting and possibly unexpected last minute additions to the party could affect the yield. We will work with you to determine the optimum cake size for your celebration. It is always better to err on the side of caution and have too much than too little.
Q: When should I order my cake?
A: All of our cakes are custom made to order. Therefore we only handle a small number of cakes per week, so that each one may be given the attention it deserves. We recommend placing your order for a wedding cake as early as possible, preferably at least three months in advance.
Celebration cakes should be ordered at least three weeks before the event.
Q: Can I make changes to the design of my cake? What about the date?
A: Wedding cakes can be very involved and time consuming. Depending on the complexity and quantity of sugar flowers and decorations, production may begin the day after the deposit is received. Changes to the design may be considered up to one month before the delivery date. A change of flavour may be requested as late as two weeks before the delivery date. A change of delivery date may only be accommodated if requested at least one month before the original delivery date if the date is later and a slot is available, or one month before the new date if the new date is sooner than the original and a slot is available.
Celebration cake design may be modified no less than three weeks before delivery, and a change of flavour may be requested no closer than one week before the delivery date.
Any changes to the cake design may affect the final price of the cake.
Q: Do you require a deposit? When is the balance due?
A: All cakes require a deposit of 50% at the time the order is placed. The date is not guaranteed until the deposit is paid.
For wedding cakes the balance is due three weeks before delivery.
For celebration cakes, final payment is due two weeks before delivery.
Q: What forms of payment do you accept?
A: We accept cash, cheque, money order, e-mail money transfer and credit and/or debit cards via PayPal.
Q: What is your cancellation and refund policy?
A: Depending on the notice given, some part of the payment may be refunded in the event of a cancellation. 50% of the order total is non-refundable. Wedding cake cancellations are refunded half of the full payment, or 50% of the total amount. Cancellations within two weeks of the delivery date are 100% non-refundable. Any security deposits on rented equipment will be fully refunded. Any and all changes to delivery location/date/time must be agreed upon, in writing, four weeks before the earliest delivery date.
For celebration cakes, 25% is non-refundable. The balance will be refunded if cancelled two weeks or more before delivery. You are responsible for the entire balance for cancellations within two weeks of the delivery date.
